Meanwhile, Eugene is in the caravan speaking with Lance and Hook-Foot. Everyone decides to keep a low profile while in town. Eugene wants nothing to do with him, but Rapunzel invites him to stay. Tangled: The Series elaborates upon the film's gag about Eugene attempting to propose to Rapunzel; it forms a minor subplot although it's played for a bit more drama here. They arrive at the Spire where "Calliope" asks for the key to unlock the chest containing the Mind Trap, but Rapunzel sees through the ruse; Cassandra reveals herself and "Calliope" is Zhan Tiri in disguise. Rapunzel and Cassandra take the caravan back to the campsite while Eugene, Lance, Hook Foot, and Shorty collect the supplies. Eugene, Rapunzel, Maximus and Pascal take off to go look for the thief while Lance is left in charge of watching over Varian's new invention: The Rooster, a large machine that warns of Cassandra's imminent attack.

Due to cultural traditions and customs around proposing, it's almost always a woman rejecting a man, though there are rare exceptions. Eugene appears and assures they will make it on their journey and will reach their destination together. Varian learns that Demanitus made a machine that trapped Zhan Tiri in another world and Rapunzel, Eugene, Pascal, Varian, Lance, Angry and Red venture to Demanitus' tomb to get the plans. Calliope sends a letter to Rapunzel for help and she and Eugene set out by hot air balloon. Overwhelmed and anxious, she rejects Eugene's proposal and leaves the scene in a huff. Edmund and Eugene decide to go and retrieve it. They battle their way through the fish like natives, but Rapunzel rescues a couple as they leave. The wedding was over nearly as fast as it had begun; or at least, it seemed that way to Rapunzel, who never wanted it to end.
